Modesty, Identity & Caring for What God Has Given
by Vineyard of Faith Academy
There is so much noise in today’s culture about appearance, identity, and value.
As parents and as young people, it can feel confusing at times; what matters, what doesn’t, and how we are meant to carry ourselves in a world that often pulls in the opposite direction.
At Vineyard of Faith Academy, our heart is not to create rules or pressure, but to gently encourage or support families in Godly living.
💛 It Begins in the Heart
Modesty is not simply about clothing.
It begins in the heart.
It is about understanding who you are in Christ, walking in confidence, and choosing to live in a way that reflects that identity.
“Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning…
But let it be the hidden man of the heart…”
1 Peter 3:3–4 (KJV)
When the heart is rooted in truth, what flows outward follows.
🌱 What We Mean by Modesty
When we talk about modesty, we are simply encouraging:
covering the body in a way that reflects dignity and respect.
choosing clothing that does not draw unnecessary ungodly attention
honoring God in how we present ourselves
This is not about hiding.
It is about honoring.
📖 A Life That Honors God
God calls us to honor Him in every part of our lives:
“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31 (NLT)
Modesty is simply one expression of a life that seeks to glorify Him, both inwardly and outwardly.
🌿 Caring for What God Has Given
At the same time, we also believe that caring for ourselves is good and right.
Taking care of our bodies can include:
-personal hygiene
-skincare
-if you choose, modest makeup for older girls
-maintaining hair and appearance
-choosing clothing thoughtfully
These things are not about vanity.
They are about stewardship.
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost…?”
1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV)
Our bodies are a gift, and caring for them is one way we honor God.
💛 A Balanced Perspective
There is a healthy balance we want to model and teach.
Not neglecting ourselves.
Not becoming consumed with appearance.
But living in a way that says:
“I care for myself because I am valued by God.”
Not:
“I need attention to feel valuable.”
👨👩👧 For Parents
Parents set the tone more than anything else.
Children are always watching - how we speak, how we carry ourselves, and what we value.
We encourage parents to:
model modesty and self-respect
care for themselves in healthy ways
speak identity and worth into their children
explain the “why” with grace and patience
Children will remember what we lived far more than what we required.
🌱 To Our Young People
You were created with purpose.
Your value is not found in trends, attention, or approval.
It is found in Christ.
Choosing modesty and caring for yourself is not about restriction, it is about:
Respecting who you are
Honoring what God has given you
Walking in confidence rooted in truth
✨ A Gentle Approach
We believe these things should be taught with:
-grace
-patience
-conversation
-relationship
Not pressure.
Not shame.
Every family is on a journey, and growth happens over time.
🌿 Final Encouragement
This is not about perfection.
It is about direction.
Small, intentional choices, made in faith, shape hearts, build confidence, and create lasting impact.
You are not alone in this.
We are here to support, encourage, and walk alongside you every step of the way.
